Berlin

Hello,

The people who follow me on twitter and instagram will know that I went to Berlin, Germany. Berlin is a city in the east of Germany. It is a city full of history. Berlin was from 1961 until 1889 divided in two parts, West-Berlin and East-Berlin.

This post is different from the rest of the things I have done on my blog so far. In Berlin we went out to eat every day because you couldn’t eat in our hotel and we didn’t have a kitchen. I want to share with you where and what I have eaten so that if someone goes to Berlin and wants to eat good food you know where to go. If I don’t really recommend it I won’t name the place. We arrived in Berlin around dinnertime (we is my family and I). Our hotel was next to a shopping centre. We went there to eat. We ate at a (theme) German restaurant. The picture above is the dish that I had. Rolls of meat stuffed with unions and bacon. It was OK.

The next day we had dinner at a restaurant at Potzdammer Platz called Mom’s favourite. I had the cheeseburger and it was amazing. Best burger I have eaten so far. But being me I pulled the stick that was at the middle of the hamburger out before I started eating. After a few bites I remember what that stick was for. It got a bit messy. The restaurant was next to a shopping centre. When my mother and sister went shopping, my father and I just walked around. There was an exhibition about the wall. It was very interesting and if you are around the area check it out.berlijn 199

 

The last two night we  ate at the same restaurant. The restaurant is called Mio.  The first night I had a pizza with italian ham and as dessert two brownies. The food was really good. The second night I had the schnitzel. Mio is situated near the Lush at Alexanderplatz.   If you ever have to chance to visit Berlin you should do it. It is a very city with an interesting and terrible history. During my trip I learned a lot.

Coriander

Hello,

Yesterday I learned a lesson in cooking. NEVER USE TOO MUCH CORIANDER.

I wanted to make Guacamole. I found a recipe on the internet. There was even a video explaining how to do it. So I thought ‘Easy’. Well, it wasn’t. I got all the ingredients at the grocery store.

I wanted to make it in a few days cause I had to work yesterday. But my boss called me and said that I didn’t have to work because the weather wasn’t very good.

I was OK with that. I mean I like working there but I got to make the Guacamole.

So I started chopping up the unions and stuff.

Then it was time to add coriander. I had 40 gram of coriander. I knew that the taste of coriander was very intense so I didn’t want to use it all. I used almost half of it.

At first it smelt alright but after a few minutes of stirring it started to smell very strong of coriander. At that point I was like ‘oh help, this isn’t going to turn out well’. But being the positive person I am I just went on with stirring and stirring. The smell got worse and worse.

Then it was time to taste it. I took a crisp and put some ‘guacamole’ on it. The moment I started chewing I had to spit it out. It tasted so bad. I had added to much coriander.

Is there a way to save the food after you added coriander? Or do you have a story like this. Please, let me know.

Fruit Pie

I haven’t uploaded a blogpost in a while. One of the reason is that I have found a job in a restaurant. I work there around 3 times a week. I don’t cook on the nights that I have to work. Another reason is that it has been very warm where I live. I have BBQ’ed a lot the last couple of weeks. In the time that I didn’t upload I found out that I passed all my exams. I even made no mistakes on one of the exams.

My family came to my house on a Sunday to celebrate that I graduated. We needed a lot of pie so I made a fruit pie (with strawberry, blue berry and raspberry).

I now have a lot of time. It isn’t as warm anymore. I have made a few recipes in the time that I was “away”. This is my recipe for fruit pie.

The ingredients:
4 eggs
150 gram sugar
8 gram vanilla sugar
120 gram melted butter
140 gram flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
strawberries, blue berries and raspberries

Spring form tin (24 cm)

 

Preheat the oven until 180 degrees. Split the egg. Put the yolk and egg-white in separate bowls. Beat the egg whites until it is almost stiff. Add the sugar and vanilla sugar while stirring.

Add the yolks (one by one) and the melted butter to the mixture.

Add the flower and the baking powder in a separate bowl and mix it together. Add this mixture to the other mixture with a wooden spoon.

The mixture is finished now. Pour the mixture into the spring form tin.

Wash the fruits. Pat dry the fruits. Add half a tablespoon of flour to the fruit. This prevents the fruit from sinking to the bottom.

Put the fruit on top of the mixture (that you poured into the spring form tin).

Put the spring form tin in the oven for around 50 minutes. In the end it will look like this:

Chicken with green beans

A few days ago I made chicken with green beans. You can serve this dish with potatoes or just eat it without anything.

The ingredients:

2 Chicken Breast
200 gram Green Beans
Bacon Bits
Salt
Pepper

Cut the chicken breast into cubes and season them with salt and a bit of pepper.

Heat up a pan with water until it is boiling. Boil the green beans for around 5 minutes (don’t forget to season them with salt).

Cook the chicken in a frying pan. While the chicken is cooking the green beans will be ready.

Put the green beans in the frying pan with the chicken. Stir them around to 3 minutes.

Add the bacon bits to the beans and chicken. Stir everything around for 5 more minutes. The bacon bits will make the beans salty.

Salmon

Hello,

At Wednesday I bought some salmon at the market. Salmon is a piece of fish that is eaten all over the world.

The ingredients:
400 gram of salmon
5 spring onions
1 tomato
Salt
Pepper
Parsley

Heat up  the oven till 220 degrees Celsius. Cut the parsley in really small pieces. As small as possible. Mix the salt, pepper and parsley together.

The mixture will be used to season the salmon. Season the salmon. Cut the spring onions. Cut the tomato.

Put the salmon together with the springs onions and the tomato into tin foil and then put into a baking dish. Cook it for 20 minutes in the oven (220 degrees Celsius).

When it is done you have a beautiful piece of salmon that tastes amazing.

Sauce

Hello,

Yesterday my dad ask me if I could make some sauce for a pasta. I looked at ingredients we had at home and tried to make a sauce. I think it tasted very good.

The ingredients:

300 gram minced meat
1 canned peeled tomatoesDSC00326
2 large onions
1 garlic clove
Basil
Parsley
Oregano
Chive
Butter

Cut the onions and garlic into little pieces. Heat up a frying pan. Let the butter melt into the frying pan. Season the minced meat with salt and pepper. Make little pieces of the meat. Put the minced meat into the frying pan and cook it until all the meat is brown (not rare). Meanwhile cut the basil, parsley, oregano and chive.

Add the cut onions and garlic to the cooked meat. Cook that with the meat for a little bit.

Add the peeled tomatoes to the meat, onions and garlic. Add the basil, parsley, oregano and chive while stirring it around. Keep tasting and adding until you find the right flavour for you.

My family really liked the sauce. It is very simple sauce but you know what they say “Less is more.”

Noodles

Hello,

Yesterday I made noodles for my family. Noodles are made from dough that is rolled flat, stretched or extruded and then cut into various shapes. I am not able to make noodles myself so I used premade ones from the grocery store.

The ingredients:

Premade noodles
Chicken stock cubes (1 for 500 ml  )
2 red chilli
5 spring onions
1 leek
1 ginger
2 egg
diced ham
Salt
Olive
oil

Fill a pan up to half with water. When it is boiling put the stock cubes into the water. Stir a few times. Add the noodle. Boil them for 12 minutes. Stir a few times during boiling.

Cut the spring onions, red chillies and the leek. Make sure that they are cut in very small pieces.

Crack your eggs into a bowl. Stir them until it is yellow. Add a little bit of salt. Heat up a saucepan. Put oil in the saucepan. Pour the stirred egg into the saucepan. Stir it around. You are now making scrambled eggs. When they done, put them in bowl on the side.

Heat up a frying pan and put the oil in the pan. Add the cut spring onions, red chillies and leek. Season them with salt and ginger.

Around then the noodles will be cooked. Pour them out of the pan into a strainer and let them dry. Try to save the stock.

Wait ’till the noodles are dried. Put the noodles, scrambled egg and dices ham into the frying pan. Stir them around. If you want a stronger flavour you can add some of the stock. Keep going ’till you like the taste.

In the end it looks something like this:

I used a red chilli and an orange chilli. I like a bit of spicy food. So I found the orange chilli not so spicy. My family doesn’t like spicy food at all. So they found the orange chilli really spicy. Be careful with the chillies and taste them first.
